What is Net Run Rate (NRR) in Cricket?

Net Run Rate (NRR) is an important factor used in cricket tournament to determine the performance of teams. NRR calculates the difference between average runs scored per over by a team and the average runs conceded per over by a team. It mostly used in laegue stage tournament.

How to Calculate Net Run Rate?

Net Run Rate is calculated using the following formula:

Net Run Rate (NRR) Formula

Net Run Rate (NRR) Formula

NRR =
Total Runs Scored by Team
Total Overs Faced
Total Runs Conceded by Team
Total Overs Bowled
  • Total Runs Scored: Sum of runs scored by the team in all matches.
  • Total Overs Faced: Total number of overs the team has faced while batting.
  • Total Runs Conceded: Sum of runs given away by the team in all matches.
  • Total Overs Bowled: Total number of overs the team has bowled in all matches.

Calculating NRR Examples

Eg 1 : Lets A T20 match played between RCB and CSK . RCB scored 196-7 in 20 over And CSK scored 146-8 in 20 over then Calculate NRR Of RCB?

NRR of RCB =
196
20
146
20
=
50
20
= 2.5

Eg 2 : Lets A T20 match played between RCB and CSK . RCB scored 196-7 in 20 over And CSK scored 146-8 in 20 over then Calculate NRR Of CSK?

NRR of CSK =
146
20
196
20
=
-50
20
= -2.5

Eg 3 : Lets A T20 match played between RR and GT . GT All Out on 120 in 18 over And RR chased the target by scoring 121 run in 5.3 over . Calculate the NRR of RR ?

NRR of RR =
121
5.5
120
20
=
1760
110
= 16

Since, GT got All Out . So full quota of 20 Over Consider & Chased target in 5.3 ( Five and half ) over . So We consider 5.5 while calculating

Eg 4 : If IPL first match played between KKR and SRH . KKR scored 240-4 in 20 over And SRH also scored 240-6 in 20 over then Super Over played amoung them . In Super Over SRH scored 10 Run and KKR chased the target in 4 Ball by scoring 12-1 . Calculate the NRR of both Teams .

Since, We know that Super Over not counted . So ignored Super over

NRR of Both Teams =
240
20
240
20
=
0
20
= 0

Eg 5 : In IPL 2025 DC Played 5 matches scored 211,166,183,169 & 193 in total 93.2 (93.2 = 93.33 because 2 ball counts 0.33) overs . They conceded 209,163,158,163,205 runs in total 100 overs . What is the NRR of DC after 5th match?

NRR of DC =
211 + 166 + 183 + 169 + 193
19.5 + 16 + 20 + 17.83 + 20
209 + 163 + 158 + 163 + 205
20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20

=
922
93.33
898
100

= 9.878 - 8.980

= 0.899

Question : In the same tournament DC Played their 6th match versus RR where DC scored 188 runs in 20 overs and RR also scored 188 runs in 20 over . Match is tie and goes to super over where RR scored 11 run and DC chased down by scoring 13 runs in just 4 Balls . Now calculate the NRR of DC After 6th match?

Since, We know that Super Over not count . So ignored Super over

NRR of DC =
211 + 166 + 183 + 169 + 193 + 188
19.5 + 16 + 20 + 17.83 + 20 + 20
209 + 163 + 158 + 163 + 205 + 188
20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20

=
1110
113.33
1086
120

= 9.794 - 9.05

= 0.744
